Miracle Fruit aka Miracle Berry (Synsepalum dulcificum) This Miracle Fruit is a small red berry which is native to west Africa. In Ghana it is being grown commercial for resale in the Western World, as Fresh Miracle Berries and Miracle Fruit Granules. The active ingredients in Miracle Fruit is the protein named Miraculin. It makes sour and bitter foods taste sweet. The Miracle Berry is also being grown in the USA as well as Taiwan. Curculigo Latifolia (aka Lumbah) is a fruit which grows natively in Malaysia. It has the same property as the Miracle Fruit, only Curculin the active ingredients in this fruit, also makes WATER taste sweet. Curculin is a Protein and is therefore destroy at high temperatures just like Miraculin. Curculin is also SWEET itself, unlike Miraculin which is not sweet by itself. Curculigo has to be freeze dried right after picking for the magical property to stay intact. Curculin is also known as Neoculin. There is currently no known suppliers for this fruit or it's seeds or plant. |
Staurogyne Merguensis Kuntze is different than the other 2 plants, in that, the taste modifying protein is in the leaves and also that the taste modifying substance is not a protein. A Glycoside known as Strogin is the active ingredients in this plant. The strogin makes water taste sweet. The advantage of Strogin is that, if the leaves are dried they can be preserved at normal temperatures. This plant has no yet been cultivated in captivity. unfortunately this plant is very rare. |
